This first started with me stumbling across a small commercial by Makoto Shinkai that he made for The Shinano Mainichi Shimbun. It was just a small little clip with a girl riding her bike, and a guy on a train leaving town, but I thought it was so interesting that I decided to try and found somewhere to download it. Thus I stumbled onto She and Her Cat.

I really wanted to create something memorable for this girl and her small kitty. After watching the 5-6 minute clip of their lives together, I immediately fell in love. It was a soft story that made me think of my own cats, and how I feel about them. I think very whole heartedly that they are part of me in some way or some form. So I wanted to portray that for this girl and her cat too. Create something where you could see the connection and feelings for each other, and wonder about what would, could happen along the time of their lives.

The title a[part] simple means that they are not only part of each other, but they also are a part from each other as well. Maybe their feelings for each other will always remain? Or maybe it will drift? However I truly believe a cat, can be man's best friend far greater than anyone thinks. And so I think that happiness will always remain.
