AKROSS CON 2017
FINALIST

Gracias! ^^

This is a very hard video to judge, it could be easily labeled as a "random action", but there is definitely a lot of effort involved, and I think there's something more to it.

Starting with the "not so good", beware of rant, firstly some of the scenes just don't fit the others surrounding it, making for very jarring sequences, it breaks the immersion, and the flow chokes every time this happens, the difference in art styles is way too drastic to change between animes so harshly, jumping from Re: Zero to Kizumonogatari, then from Evangelion, to Madoka Magica and finally to Kakegurui, it just feels off.

Secondly, I just have to mention some of the effects, some of them fit the video, but I'm just gonna go ahead and say that the video would be better without a lot of these, they are ugly, distracting, completely out of place and the vast majority of them don't serve any purpose, either it being sync or mood related, they're just there. Examples of what I mean:

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

The Shinji X-ray scene at 1:25 was cool though I'll give you that one

And the last but not least of the bad, you have the Twixtor, I know how making a 5 minute action video interpolating every scene is quite challenging, but it's a weird case, some scenes look good, others look absolutely horrible, I'm suspecting that the scenes naturally compatible with the plugin (as in, those that already are in slow motion, well animated, and have good contrast) worked great as they usually do, but action heavy scenes, running scenes or shots with one too many explosions are often a warpy mess, I suspect that its because there was no attempt of fixing the warping using Twixtor Pro's features, because those are easily recognizable by a trained eye and I simply can't see any.

Now the good.
There is definitely an impressive effort and attention to detail when syncing the nuances of the song and matching the mood of said song with the intensity or calmness of the scenes picked, sure some felt weird like the overlaying low opacity scenes appearing in and out at 0:41 without any sound cue, except for the voices at 0:45, but the rest is mostly very pleasing.

I like the psychedelic nature of certain parts of the video, the intro was good and exposed the style of the edit immediately, while the outro was not as good, it left me with a feeling like this needed a proper conclusion, something to make sense of it all, your description says this video is about falling into madness and losing control, and therefore trying to fight it, but the finale certainly didn't touch on this subject as I would hope it would.

Apologies for the huge essay, but I think you can do much better and felt like letting you know these things, even if you might not agree with them, looking forward to what you might do in the future, and take time to refine your upcoming projects.

PS: About your 228MB encode, for such an action packed video, a bitrate of 5Mb/s, only 2 reference frames and a me_range of 16 is hardly enough, try at least 15Mb/s, 16 reference frames and a me_range of 32.
